Naxos is really an exceptional island. I don't think you'll find other island being rich in, well, everything.
Here, it's not only one village, capital, that it's nice, beautiful, full of history...
Apeiranthos is an absolute must if you rent a car. High altitude, castles, interesting Cycladic old houses, more ancient than vivid. You feel as if you entered some medieval town.
Several museums, souvenir shops and very alive.
The view over the mill on a green hill across is very nice too.

Category: Naxos Moutsouna

Moutsouna is beyond small. It looks more like a model. Miniature port, one boat, few restaurants... But the food was very, very awesome and the hosts pleasant and funny. Complete stripe of restaurants is like a small, funny village.
As for Moutsouna beach, there is no beach there. It's literally two square meters of sand next to restaurant chairs, so it's not really a place to swim. :)

This village is perfect. It has retained its "Greekness" and yet many foreigners have bought homes here and happily become part of the friendly community. Mina's taverna, in the village square, is one of the best on the island. The views are wonderful and the easy access to Hora and the best beaches makes it all the more attractive.

Category: Naxos Apiranthos

Apriranthos is a beautiful village in Naxos that I highly recommend for everyone who wants to enjoy Greek culture. Greek islands are not just about beaches. Our plan at Greece was to spend a few days at the beaches. We took a bus to Apiranthos from Chora and immediately after landing, I was very moved by the beauty of the village. It was so traditional that you may feel like you have moved past in time. It is located at the foot of Mount Fanari and the setting was very good. Streets were narrow and they were paved with marble. There were little tavernas that served some Greek traditional dishes for us to taste. I was enticed by the villagers who respect their tradition a lot. The nature around was very green, even in the middle of summer, which can get very refreshing in the hot summer days.

Among the villages we visited on Naxos, I liked Apiranthos the most. It is a small village in the mountainside of Naxos, about 40 minutes drive from Chora. The most special thing about Aripanthos was its architecture: tall stone houses, paved paths, Venetian towers and lovely gardens. Go in the morning in Apiranthos, so that you can vist its museums. The Geological Museum has some rare rocks among its exhibits and the Folklore Museum really gives you a true picture of life on Naxos a few decades ago.

Category: Naxos Koronos

We discovered Koronos by chance, while we were lost in the countryside of Naxos and were looking for our way back to Chora. It was a lovely village, it reminded me of the mountainous villages that we normally see in the Greek mainland. There you will see some old houses that should need reconstruction, narrow routes to climb up, lovely stairs and gardens with nice flowers. We took some pictures, had a Greek coffee at the traditional coffee shop in the square and got ready to leave. People were old and didn't know English but somehow, amazingly, they gave us the right directions to go to Chora!!

Category: Naxos Town

Hi, i'm Norwegian and I'm 44 years old. In the summer of 2006 I visited Greece and the island of Naxos.
I was staying in Lagoudera and some friends recommended the Main Town, so I decided to go. I went there by the bus. It took me only 10 minutes to get there, but I had to wait long for it. I very much enjoyed the trip. I stayed in the area, so I didn't have to use a map or anything.
The village has beautiful architecture and is very clean. Also it is crowded with great atmosphere.
You can find telephone, bank, mini market, restaurants, cafes, bars, clubs, shops, travel agencies, museums, internet cafes, hotels and other accommodations.
My favorite thing about the village was the narrow roads, with lots of different local stores. But the bad thing is that is not good enough for pedestrians. Where is the tennis curt, mini golf, one walking points
A tip for future visitors would be, come to Naxos, you will be satisfied.

Category: Naxos Melanes

Hello, I'm Greek and I'm 42 years old. In the summer of 2006 I visited Naxos Island.
I was staying in Agios Prokopios and I visited Melanes village, as it was recommended and known as one of the most beautiful villages on the island.
I got there by scooter that took me about 30 minutes. The roads need to be reducing, quite good.
I very much enjoyed the trip there, it was beautiful. I used a map and it was perfectly indicated.
The village is picturesque, modern and authentic with labyrinth streets and small cubic houses. It has beautiful architecture, is clean and perched on a hill. It also has blue and white houses. It is a great village and quite.
It also has mini markets and restaurants.
My favorite thing about it was the authentic greek cooking, that is typical and traditional.
The only thing that could be improved is the roads that have no good indications. Also the wind was too much.
A tip for future visitors of Naxos would be to go to this greek authentic village and eat the traditional food.
Another village I would recommend is Agios Prokopios.
