Less is More- 11th Naxos Festival

The 11th Naxos Festival entitled Less is More has proudly entered its second decade. This year's theme brings forth images of a past era as a way to produce thoughts and ideas about our future. Less is more can have various interpretations in one's mind, yet the basic message focuses more on the quality than the actual quantity. This year, the organizers go back to the photographic archives of Benaki Museum to collect original and noticeable images. These images would never have been displayed due to the loss of their descriptive detail.
This time, the ruined negatives have been given a second chance to reveal their strong, yet faded content. The exhibition will take place at the Bazeos Tower from July 23rd to September 2nd, where the visitors will have the opportunity to have a personal approach and discover their lost beauty. Apart from this long-lasting exhibition, the festival will host a number of musical concerts and theatrical performances throughout August. The program includes:
Saturday, July 30th – 21:30
Aegean jazz concert A musical journey to the world of jazz with the contribution of noteworthy musicians including the famous German trumpeter and composer Markus Stockhausen and the Greeks masters George Kaloudis, Vasilis Rakopoulos and Takis Farazis.
Monday, August 1st - 21:30
Piano recital by Alexandra Papastefanou The internationally recognized pianist will play pieces of Mozart, Schumann, Debussy and Gulda.
Tuesday, August 2nd – 21:30
The actor Christos Stergioglou will perform readings from the latest priced winning book titled Vinkelmann, or the destiny written by the well-known translator Alexandros Isaris.
Thursday August 4th – 21:30
Jazz duo Anders Lonne Gronseth, saxophone and David Skinner, piano. This popular duet from Norway will present a musical combination of European musical tradition and American jazz.
Sunday and Monday, August 7th & 8th - 21:30
The Partali Christos Stergioglou is the protagonist of the theatrical monologue of a man who wore female clothes all his life.
Thursday, August 11th – 21:30
Why does the wind blow? A puppet show with live music and songs inspired by a fairytale from the Greek island of Lefkada. Narration – guitar: Kostantis Mizaras
Saturday, August 13rd – 21:30
Mania Papadimitriou and Kostas Vomvolos perform songs under the moonlight at the temple of Dionysus in Iria.
Tuesday, August 16th – 21:30
Maran Atha Giasemi Kelaidoni gives a strong performance that lasts 2 and half hours. This is the story of a 90 year-old monk and his strong confession after a period of 65 years living in silence.
Friday, August 19th – 21:30
Camille Claudel: the wave of madness A theatrical performance by Greek actress, Lydia Fotopoulou.
Seminars in Drama Therapy Conducted by Robert Landy, Professor of Drama Therapy at New York University. All the events of the festival will be held in Bazeos Tower, except for the musical performance August 13 that will take place at the Temple of Dionysus in Iria.
