Sangri
Naxos: Sangri village is located at a distance of 12 km southeast of Chora, the capital and main port of Naxos. This stands out of the Cycladic style, as the dominant colors are grey and brown. Like most mountainous villages of Naxos, it has Medieval architecture, in constrast to the coastal settlements of the island which have Cycladic architecture.
The village is divided in Ano and Kato Sangri, with a distance of couple km between them. The village is also famous for the Byzantine monasteries and the ancient Temple of Demetra, about 1,5 km south from Ano Sangri. This temple is one of the most interesting archaeological monuments on the island. It was made of marble and dates back to 530 B.C. |
