The Church of Panagia Mirtidiotissa in Naxos Town, Cyclades Greece: The small and picturesque church of Panagia Mirtidiotissa is located on a rocky reef in the old port of Naxos Town, Cyclades.
This rocky reef has been widened and laid with concrete. On top of it, the locals built this small church to protect the ships coming in and out of the port. Next to the church, three trees have been planted.
The locals highly esteem this small church and they have given its name to shops, boats and professional groups, such as the Fishermen Union of Naxos, which has named their union "Panagia Myrtidiotissa". |
