The Neolithic Settlement of Ftelia on Mykonos: The Neolithic settlement at the site of Ftelia dates to approximately the 5th millennium BC. The site of Ftelia, covering about half a hectare, is located at the northern part of Mykonos Island. A tomb at the site is believed to be of the ancient Iliad hero Ajax the Locrian. Even though there were occasional interruptions, the excavations went till 2000 and revealed many valuable findings.
There are four levels of settlements identified so far of which some are almost destroyed due to natural decay. The initial periods of the settlement was found at the top of the hill, as the building of Megaron has been excavated there. This structure directed north south is an important finding and has its walls 1.5m high, intact still today. |
