The name Gola is an acronym for the Italian expression “gusto oltre l’appetito” which translates as "delight beyond mere appetite". The appropriateness of the expression is apparent with the quality and presentation of the Italian cuisine on offer. The dishes range in style from the ultra simple, a spaghetti dish with cherry tomatoes and fresh basil, to the decadent gourmet, lobster in an avocado cream sauce.
Making use of the local ingredients, the Italian kitchen at Gola produces an exquisite menu by combining flavors of the most famous Italian produce. Diners at Gola can sample Sardinian fish eggs, Parma ham and mozzarella di bufala imported from Italy, as well as local produce such as arugula, olives, oregano and, of course, fresh caught bream, snapper, tuna and anchovies.
As visitors to Mykonos can expect, the finest of everything is on offer. Rare vintages, high end champagnes, black truffles and caviar from the Caspian are all on offer at Galo, however once you understand the meaning behind the name, you realize it is not just about the quality. The simplest ingredients can delight as well as the most decadent, and the aim of Galo is to prove the expression in every way. A carpaccio with goat cheese, capers and lime juice is simplicity itself but the combination is worthy of the highest gourmet standards.
