The Archaeological Museum

Located in the centre of Plaka, the capital of Milos, the archaeological museum of Milos was founded in 1985 and is housed in a beautiful neo-classical building.

The museum has many archaeological findings which represent the history of the island since the Neolithic age.

Among the various items

The History and Folk Museum of Milos

This museum is a short distance away from the Archaeological Museum. It is housed in a 200 year old two-storey house and was founded in 1967 by the Union of Athenian Miloans.

The entire exhibition is a reconstitution of the Miloan life from the 17th century and then on.

The Mining Museum / Mineralogical Museum

This museum is located in Adamas, on the waterfront, 500 metres to the right of the central square of the village.

It is a new museum with some interesting geological exhibits, retracing the entire long Milos’ history of mining, which begun in the Neolithic times.

Everything is recreated like it used to be in those times: life-sized figures are dressed with local costumes and placed in various places of the house (kitchen, sitting room, bedroom and storeroom), doing everyday life things, in the same way people were doing then.

Various house utensils, embroidery, old photographs and hand woven textiles are exhibited in the Folk Museum of Milos.

The Ecclesiastical Museum of Milos

The small Ecclesiastical Museum of Milos is found in the church of the Holy Trinity in Adamas village. It includes rare exhibits from the Venetian times till today.
