Plaka, the capital of Milos, is a lovely village built amphitheatrically on the slopes of a hill. Walk in the narrow paths and relax with a morning coffee. Also visit the Catacombs, about 3 km away. These catacombs are the only of such kind in Greece and date from the late 2nd century AD. They were actually burial and pilgrimage sites of early Christians.
Klima is a close village with special architecture, as houses with colourful windowshuts and doors are built right by the sea. This is the most picturesque village on Milos and keeps its character traditional.
For a swim, go to Sarakiniko, the most famous beach on the island. This beach looks like a moon landscape and has probably been the most photographed spot on Milos.
In the evening, head off to Firopotamos, an impressive fishing village on the northern side of the island, famous
for its fish taverns.
Two days in Milos: Adamas, Papafragas and Pollonia |
1st day as described above.
On the second day, stroll around Adamas, the main port of Milos. This village is busier than Plaka but still it keeps its quiet pace. In the waterfront of Adamas, visit the Mineralogical Museum of Milos to get a view of the island's special landscape.
Later in the day, go swimming in Papafragas, on the eastern side of the island, an idyllic beach that looks like a natural pool. At noon, have lunch in Apollonia, a lovely tourist village on the easternest point of Milos. If you have time, take the ferry to spend a few hours in Kimolos, a small island right opposite Apollonia. The ferry ride takes only 30 minutes but there are only four routes a day, so make sure you check the timetables before.
Three days on Milos: Boat ride to Kleftiko |
1st and 2nd days as described above.
On the third day, you get a boat ride to the most impressive spots of Milos: Kleftiko and Gerontas. These places are located on the south western part and are accessible only by boat, because there is no road there. Boats leave from the port of Adamas and make the half tour of the island before they reach Kleftiko, an impressive site with clean waters and upside-down rocks into the sea.
