Milos Sarakiniko beach

General information

Located just five kilometers away from the scenic town of Plaka, Sarakiniko Beach in Milos is the most well-known shore on the island, boasting a rarely-sighted geological profile that strikes a chord in every visitor!

Towards the northern part of Milos, a 10-minute drive from Adamas port, Sarakiniko is a stunning sight to behold, frequently used for photography sessions!

The beach has a lunar landscape that makes it vastly different from every other shore in Greece, featuring awe-inspiring, smooth white rocks with plenty of horizontal layering.
Its formation is highly unique, boasting numerous caves that anyone can explore with the help of a flashlight! The beach was mostly formed as such due to fossil layering and some volcanic eruptions, while it is said to have been named after the Saracen pirates that used the caves as a shelter.
Other pirate populations, such as the Cilicians, the Ottomans, and the Barbary pirates, have also used the coast as a hiding place.

More info about Sarakiniko

Enjoy views over Kimolos and Sifnos while you sunbathe or take a dive in Sarakiniko’s crystal-clear turquoise waters! The shore is thoroughly unorganized, with almost no available natural shading, and there are no facilities nearby in order to protect the natural environment. Jump into the clean sea and carefully swim or snorkel your way through the windy waves, or use diving equipment and explore the Africa shipwreck (about 100 meters away from the picturesque shore).

There is no vegetation to be found around Sarakiniko, so the white/blue contrast between the cliffs and the endless Aegean Sea is striking!

Sitting on the white cliffs of Sarakiniko during the late afternoon hours will reward you with an outstanding sunset view! While it is usually crowded, a visit in the early morning or late night will guarantee you little to no company, perfect for some private moments or simply enjoying the otherworldly views of the sea horizon!

Dreamy and spooky at the same time
Sarakiniko is an absolute must while on Milos. If you don't have car, buses will take you there.
The beach is something special and unique, with its colours and shapes.
Ideal for visit and taking pictures, not necessary to swim.

    A picture from the moon
A picture from the moon, this is Sarakiniko! I was amazed to see such a beautiful beach in a small Greek island. I had seen the beach before in photos and tour guides, but from close it was even more gorgeous. I have taken some impressive photos from Sarakiniko and I have made them tapastries here, back home, in the bloody cold England...

    Sarakiniko the best
I was always looking for pure Greek atmosphere with not too much touristic approach and therefore I was fully happy to discover Milos. Sarakiniko was indeed perfect, a landscape from the moon. I have the best
pictures of Milos from Sarakiniko. Also give a try to the tavern "I omorfi varka" in Adamas. Cozy atmosphere and delicious tyropita.
