We hadn't heard of Koufonisia until we saw a ferry schedule in the port of Naxos with the itineraries of Skopelitis, a lovely ship that serves local itineraries between Naxos, Amorgos and some small islands of the Aegean. So, we thought, why not try another island, just for a day?

Eventually we discovered that Koufonisia has some of the most heartbreakingly beautiful beaches in Greece. Wherever we went, we saw golden stretches of sands and sparkling emerald waters dotted with secret coves and rocky outcrops sculpted by the sun and sea. We took a small boat from the village to Pori, on the northern side of the island, a big golden beach with turquoise water. An awesome day, one of the best beaches in Cyclades! No beach bars, no taverns, no umbrellas, just you, the sea, the sun and some trees for shade.

The village was small but very picturesque and the port was lined by some delicious fish taverns. I loved the fishermen doing their nets and the smell of fresh fish in the air. We returned to Naxos in the evening again with Skopelitis but we are thinking of spending a few days in Koufonisia on our next visit to Greece. Maybe combine Koufonisia to Amorgos! Really a lovely place, more special than any other island we've visited so far.

Unfortunately, we went to Koufonisia only for a day with the boat from Naxos, but if I knew this place before, we would surely stay for at least a week. I would happily exchange my busy holidays in Ios (we went there after Naxos) for a week in shinny, lovely Koufonisia!

Believe me, you haven't seen cleaner water or more beautiful landscape. Words are poor to describe their beauty and I feel even poorer for not having the chance to stay more... From the minute the ferry was approaching the small port, I knew I would fall in love with this place!! And I did...

Small sandy beaches, people fishing in the port, women having coffee in the balcony, smell of real food when you passed by taverns. And prices like a bargain! The small village has blue and white colours and looks so traditional.

I was wondering, how came the idea to paint all houses in Cyclades blue and white? I must not be random, right? If anyone knows, please tell me. I can only tell you this, go to Koufonisia and you will not regret it. Even for two or three days. It is a place to see!

We went to Koufonisia for two days from Naxos. This was our first time to this beautiful island with the gorgeous beaches. You will find the best water there and the cheapest food. Get the boat to Kato Koufonisi, that is not inhabited and try the beaches there. Gorgeous!! This is the cleanest water ever! Hike around the island and eat in small taverns next to the sea. You can have fresh fish at the cheapest price. I always said that Kefalonia had the cheapest places in Greece but Koufonisiais even cheaper! We usually paid 20 euros for two people, that is a really good price for Greece. Stay in a room in the village, you will find plenty of them once you get off the ferry.

Beaches on Koufonisia were truly great. Finikas and Pori are the best. However, there is nothing more than that: gorgeous beaches. No sites to see, no nightlife and quite crowded in late August. I went to Koufonisia by boat from Naxos for four days and I believe they were enough. The only village is on Pano Koufonisi. Kato Koufonisi is totally uninhabited. Book early because hotels on the island are few.

Many beauties in a small island

I didn't expect so many beauties from such a small island. Koufonisia indeed has some of the best beaches in Greece. Pori, Gala and Nero are wonderful to swim and lay on the soft sand all day. It is very easy to go to the beaches, as taxi boats make tours every day. Or you can try walking, if you don't get tired easily. We stayed for 4 days in Koufonisia, so we had the chance to see all of the island. There is actually only one village to see, Chora, and many beaches around it. Chora is very picturesque, not much different from the other Cycladic villages but really calm. If you go in July and August, it will probably be busy and it will be hard to get a hotel room, so better try earlier months.

The island has something of the old times: you can walk to get everywhere, you can swim everywhere. Better get there without a car, especially if you do not have children, so that you will not spoil the calm vibe of Koufonisia. Gorgeous beaches all over the island, even in Kato Koufonisi, where you go by tour boat. Best restaurants Remezzo, Kapetan Nikolas, Michalios and Atairiastoi. The prices are good for food, but it might be a little expensive for a coffee.

You don't go to Koufonisia for clubbing, but for its great nature. The beaches are out of this world. I have never seen so gorgeous color tones in any beach I have been to. It was a wonderful sight and a pleasure to swim in. Pori, Fano, Kato Koufonissi, Italida... I can't choose the beach beach, all amazing!! Also, I was absolutely thrilled with the food. It seemed like wherever we chose to eat was perfect. Either we got really lucky or the people generally have GOOD food. The people there are sooo friendly, it was a big plus for us. It is a big shame that the transportation to the island is not frequent and that visitors have so limited access to it. I don't know about you but I'm going again next summer!

Koufonisia is a small island close to Naxos. We went there last September while we were sailing around Greece. It was a tiny island, just as expected. However, there were many tourists and plenty of bars by the sea. My favourite beach was Gala, I hadn't seen a sea landscape like that. It was a breathtaking view, a small beach and a huge rock above it. There wasn't another village except for Chora and this is where I tasted pasteli for the first time, a great sweet with a lot of honey that I found in large quantities when we later went in Rhodes.

Hello! MY name is Giusy, I'm 38 and I'm Italian. I visited KOufonisia from 21st of last August to the 2nd of September. I used the plane from Italy and then we took the boat to the island. The flight from Italy was really terrible, but I found the trip with the boat very funny! We and my friens love Greece and we like to discover different islands and places every year. I took the information I needed for my trip from a travel guide and I went eveywhere in the island. All the beaches are absolutely beautiful and the sea is fantastic, a wonderful landscape too! This is the perfect island to rest and stay for the seaside. The only thing we didn't like about it was the food, as the good restaurants are so expensive and the other ones not so good.
