Ios Chora

General information

Alternatively called Ios Town, Chora in Ios is the island's main and only real village, located on the western side of the island at a 2-kilometer distance from the port. It is a real jewel, built amphitheatrically on the slopes of a hill and shimmering under the sun.

It easily charms everyone with its picturesque architecture, as it hosts little cubic, flat-roofed houses and narrow stone-paved streets winding like a labyrinth of white lines traditionally painted around the large flat stones; arches and arcades merge from a street or between two houses and contribute to the creation of a wonderful and magical atmosphere.

In this typical Cycladic village, which is characterized as one of the most beautiful towns in the Cyclades, visitors can find many accommodations, restaurants, shops, mini markets as well as a great number of bars and nightclubs.

More info about Chora

To enjoy the beauty and charms of Chora, it is better to wander around its magical streets during daylight hours when most of the crowd is sunbathing on the beaches, the bars are closed and the locals are out of their houses.

The breathtaking view from Panagia Gremiotissa, the highest spot of the village, is unparalleled and truly unforgettable, especially during the sunset. Behind the beautiful whitewashed windmills is the outdoor Odysseas Elytis Theater (named after one of the two renowned Greek poets who have won a Nobel Prize), where some concerts and plays are performed during summer. The island's Archaeological Museum is also situated in Chora, where guests can admire items unearthed from the Skarkos Archaeological Site, one of the most important ancient settlements in the Cyclades, among others.

Despite the numerous people tourism brings to the island and its frenetic nightlife, Chora has kept its traditional character and colors, as it has been proclaimed a traditional settlement by the Greek government.

    The centre of fun
Chora was the center of fun for all the island!! In general, it was a nice town but not very different from the towns in other islands, such as Paros or Mykonos. What made Ios Chora special was at night, when every corner was full of people dancing and you could hear the music of bars all over the town. The best bars were Liquid (great music) and the Pirates (friendly and charm people). Do not miss them!!
