Like all the Greek islands, an incredible amount of churches and monasteries can be seen in Ios.
Here are some of the many beautiful churches one can find in the main village, Hora, and across the rest of the island.
This lovely church is built on the highest point of the main village (Hora), in Ios. |

This lovely tiny church has also been built in Hora. It is a typical Cycladic church painted in bright white, shining under the Mediterranean sun.
Ruling the centre of Hora, the Cathedral of Ios is an imposing building, painted in the traditional Cycladic white colour. Its interior is beautifully decorated and has fine icons. |

This superb Byzantine church of great interest was built in the 17th century. It is located on the top of the harbour of Ormos and is reachable by a footpath. Agia Irene is completely whitewashed and shines under the sunrays, contrasting with the pure blue colour of the sky and the reddish rocks around it.
It is visible from Yialos and is one of the first things the visitor sees when he arrives at Ios by the ferry.
