Information about the geography of Folegandros, Greece

Folegandros is a small island with long-narrow shape. It is located on the southern side of Cyclades, between Sikinos and Milos. The geography of Folegandros is quite impressive for visitors. Sparcely populated and barren, Folegandros island has a very authentic character. The landscape is wind and there is not much greenery around, except for some trees and short vegetation. The capital of Folegandros is Chora, constrcuted on top of a barren hill. Ano Meria, on the north side of the island, is the second largest village.

The other settlement are mostly tourist resorts with hotels, taverns and gift shops. These small resorts come alive only in summer. The majority of beaches in Folegandros are pebbled, but their water is always clean. On the sourthern side of the island, there are a couple of sea caves to explore by boat, such as the Cave of Georgitsi. Worth visiting is also Chrissospilia (Golden Cave) with precious stalactites and stalagmites. This cave is strongly connected with the history of Folegandros, as archaeologists have discovered many ancient pieces there.
