breathtaking and stunning vistas, which are not to be missed by the tourists.
Historically, not much is known about the island. The earliest inhabitants are believed to be Dorians. With the passage of time, the island was ruled by the Athenians. In 1207 Folegandros was occupied by Venetians who ruled over the island until 1566. Later on it was the turn of the Ottomans to rule over the island. In the end, the island was once again given back to the Greeks.
The island’s landscape is diverse and inclusive of elevated cliffs and a huge cave. The island’s capital -Chora- is built literally on the periphery of a cliff which is 200 meters high. The small town of Karavostasi is well worth visiting. There is also the village of Ano Meria, which is renowned for its Ecological and Folklore Museum. One of the most popular beaches of Folegandros is Katergo, which is accessible only by boat. Another interesting challenge is
Chryssospilia Cave which can be reached only by boat.
Walking Trails: There are numerous well defined walking trails all over the island. One must bear in mind that there are many pristine beaches, which are accessible only on foot. Most of the walking trails are in pretty good shape. Comprehensive guides on the island’s walking paths network are available at various shops on the island.
