The capital of Folegandros is located virtually at the rim of a colossal rock and is all of 200 meters from the sea level. The island’s principal port – Karavostasi - is only 4 Kms away.
Chora is easily one of the most beautiful villages in Folegandros. It is basically a combination of two settlements. There is the Medieval settlement which has been constructed along the walls of the Venetian castle while the newer one has been built just outside the walls.
The Castle and its settlement were built during the period of Venetian domination in the beginnings of 13th century by Marcus Sanoudos is credited with the construction of the castle and its peripheral areas in the 13th century. A part of the castle actually hangs precariously over the cliff.

There are numerous small churches that are symbolic of Folegandro’s reputation, as a key island of the Cyclades.
With the passage of time, Chora began to expand towards the Castle’s walls. The new settlement that came up here was conspicuous by its traditional architectural style. |

is located on top of a hill was built in the 19th century and is conspicuous by its exquisitely designed marbled chancel screen and the bell tower. Anybody who takes the trouble of reaching the monastery are assured of breathtaking views from the top.
The ancient temple of Apollo in Paleokastro is another place worth visiting. From Chora you can reach many of the beautiful architectural treasures that the island has to offer.
