I went for a day in Donoussa with ferry boat Skopelitis from Katapola Amorgos. We arrived there early in the morning (I think we arrived in Donoussa at 6.30-7.00 am) and went back to Amorgos in the evening. The first thing to do was having a nice frappe in the single coffee house that was open in the port that time and then walk in the streets. People were just waking up and it was a nice feeling to be in such a small island with its few residents and even fewer tourists.
The beach close to the port was one of the cleanest I have seen in Greece, probably because the locals want tourism and try to keep it clean of plastic bags and cigarette ends, as we see so frequently in other popular islands. Water was also warm and the sand so soft. We had lunch in a nice tavern by the beach and the food was certainly homemade. After so many years of eating in Greek taverns, I can tell between frozen and homemade food.
I was surprised that there weren't so many gift shops in Donoussa, only a couple of them at the port. I guess this is a lovely island for a family with kids, they can walk and play safely in the beach, but not for teenagers or people who want to have fun. Donoussa is great for total quiet.
