The unique natural beauty of Antiparos lays in its huge 80-metre deep cave, known as the Stalactite Cave, as it is full of stalactites and stalagmites. No wonder why the locals say this cave – discovered during Alexander the Great’s empire - is the main attraction on the island.
Many famous people have visited this outstanding cave, such as the writer Lord Byron, and the Marquis of Nointel, a French ambassador to the Ottoman Empire.
In the summer, there are special bus services and ships from the capital for people to visit the cave. Nevertheless, if you decide to go on foot, the excursion will take about three hours. Once in the cave, you go down for about 100 metres to arrive in the wonderful vaulted chamber. |
