On June 28th 2015, the Basil and Elise Goulandris Museum of Modern Art in the beautiful Andros Town opens this year's temporary exhibition, an exciting visual tribute to the multifarious Emmanuel Radnitzky, or, as he is widely known, Man Ray. This large exhibition, entitled Man Ray: the faces of the woman, is thematic and concerns the woman and her distinct faces, as those are traced through the artist's vision.

The famous American artist started his career as a painter and then occupied with photography, which made him famous. Indeed, he presented a whole new way of photographing, the so-called rayographies, which showed his talent and artistic depth. He was also interested in sculpting and engraving, as well as cinema and other creative activities. Through his work, he contributed to the artistic movements of Dadaism and Surrealism, surprising the audience and critics with his innovations.

The exhibition will first unveil aspects of Ray's versatile Dadaist work and then his surrealist art and his interest in woman existence. In Man Ray's artistic work, the woman, significant or ignored, nameless or eponymous, is captured and highlighted by the artist as a prominent figure, with every means and in many different forms. 150 works of different types, dating from 1912-1971, will be displayed at Goulandris Museum in Andros, including photographs, paintings, engravings, drawings, sketches, sculptures and ready-mades.

Legendary figures that influenced or were the object of Man Ray's art will be presented, such as the writer Gertrude Stein, the art collector Peggy Guggenheim, the French fashion designer Coco Chanel, his mistress and photographer Lee Miller and the cinema stars Ava Gardner and Catherine Deneuve. This visual presentation will be complemented by a trilingual (Greek, English, French) accompanying volume of 350 pages.

Opening hours: Everyday from 11:00-15:00 and 18:00-21:00, except Monday evening and Tuesday.
