The big success of the expositions caused the enlargement of the museum: in 1986, a new wing opened, designed by the architect Kontovounisios, later rewarded at an international contest.

The works of famous artists of international fame are exposed every summer in the fine, four-level exhibition area.

Some important artists of the 20th century had their works on display in the Museum of Modern Art in Andros, such as Picasso, Matisse, Kadinsky, Paul Klee, Chagall, Rodin, Miro and more.

The museum had such a success until today that people from the entire Greece and from all over the world visit Andros just to see the beautiful expositions.

Among the exhibitions one may admire the wonderful statue of Hermes of Andros, a work of Praxiteles, dating from the first century AD, and found in Paleopoli in 1832.

Kydonieos Institute

This institute was founded in 1994 by Petros and Marika Kydonieos who wanted to exhibit culture and art in its many and various forms; their main interests were concentrating mainly on the fine arts such as music, theatre and literature (Greek and international).

Every summer, an exhibition is organized showing works of art which have contributed to the quest of contemporary art...

The library contains about 3000 tomes from the collection of Theofilos Kairis, who was a scholar and priest in Andros (1784-1852).

In the library, a large number of rare publications, manuscripts, historical records, works of art and a small archaeological collection are also exposed.

During summer, some art exhibitions are organized in the new exhibition area of the library.
