The residents of Anafi have a strong religious feeling, as can be seen by the numerous small and larger churches that have been constructed all over the island. |
|
Small chapels dot the countryside and the capital of Anafi. Built mostly with stone and washed in the traditional Cycladic colours, blue and white, these small churches perfectly match with the calm spirit of the island.
The most characteristic chapel on Anafi island is the church of Saint (Agios) Spyridon at the entrance of Chora with its strange architecture that doesn't look like a lot like the typical Cycladic style. In Chora, you will also find the church of Agios Athanasios in the central square and other lovely chapels in the surrounding hills. |

The Monastery of Zoodochos Pigi, on the eastern side of Anafi, offers great views to the Aegean. If you take a path to the south, after 90 minutes trekking, you will come across the Monastery of Panagia Kalamiotissa among a wild scenery. |
