Amorgos Aegialis Village
Aegialis Village Amorgos: The picturesque and popular Aegialis is located northeast of Amorgos. This is the second largest port of the island, after the port of Katapola. Aegialis is found within a distance of 15 km north east of Chora and it is known as the nightlife spot of Amorgos.
The village is concentrated around the bay and it is the starting point for numerous hiking trails. It has a permanent population of 430 inhabitants who are mainly involved with fishing and tourism. During the last years, Aegialis has become popular among tourists for the tourism facilities and the long beach.
According to archeological excavations, Aegialis had already been inhabited since the ancient times. The port of Aegialis is occupied with numerous fish boats, and some of the best taverns and cafeterias are found there. Aegialis is surrounded by picturesque small villages, such as Tholaria, Lagada and Potamos built amphitheatrically on the slopes of Mount Kirkellos at an altitude of 823 meters, overlooking the bay.
The paved streets, the whitewashed houses and the surrounding landscape of the villages captivate tourists with their authentic traditional atmosphere. Aegialis boasts beautiful tourist facilities that satisfy all tastes and budgets. The locals are very friendly and hospitable. There is a splendid bay with crystal waters and soft sand.
