Amorgos Aegiali

General information

The picturesque and popular Aegiali in Amorgos can be spotted in the island's northeastern part. It is the second port of the island, after the port of Katapola.

The village is built around a bay and it is the starting point for numerous hiking trails. It has a permanent population of 430 inhabitants who are mainly involved with fishing and tourism. Aegiali has become popular among tourists for its facilities and long beach.

According to archaeological excavations, Aegiali has been inhabited since ancient times. The port is occupied by numerous fishing boats, and some of the best taverns and cafeterias are found there. Aegiali is surrounded by picturesque small villages, such as Tholaria, Lagada and Potamos built amphitheatrically on the slopes of Mount Krikelos at an altitude of 823 meters, overlooking the bay.

The paved streets, the whitewashed houses and the surrounding landscape captivate tourists with their authentic atmosphere. Aegiali boasts beautiful tourist facilities that satisfy all tastes and budgets as well as a partly-organized sandy beach that is ideal for families. Moreover, the locals are very friendly and hospitable.

    Very clean and excelent service
We spent 6 days in Amorgos at the Galaxy Pension and we couldn't feel more welcomed.

We booked two rooms with balcony. The rooms were very clean, the staff at the reception was extremely helpful and in our opinion a perfect place to stay few days at very afordable prices.#

Even though the pension is no more than 5 min by foot from the ferry, we were picked up by the staff of the pension.

The island is beautifull and excelent to relax.

    I truly recommend this pension.

    Fishing boats with full nets
Amorgos was exactly what we needed for our vacations: peaceful, nice and quiet. Most of all beaches, I liked Aegiali. This is a small village at the northern side of the island with a quiet cozy beaches. You will love the taverns and the meals in Aegiali and you will see many fishing boats to come with their nets full of fish and lobsters. Aegiali is also a nice location to stay because it is one of the two ports of Amorgos. The only problem is that there are not many hotels in Amorgos and you will have difficulty to book a room, so do it early. A rented scooter will make things easier for transportations. Local bus is horrible and totally untrustful. With a scooter, you can go to the Monastery of Hozoviotissa and Chora. Wear a dress in Hozoviotissa because the monks are strict with the dressing code.
