It became famous to the world when scenes of the movie The Big Blue by Luc Besson were filmed there. Away from mass tourism even in high season, Amorgos is an island off the beaten track. The most important sightseeing in Amorgos is the Monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa, an amazing monastery constructed against a rocky mountain. A short walk from this monastery leads to the small bay of Agia Anna, a secluded beach with exotic water. Do not miss a visit the picturesque village of Chora, with the traditional windmills and the paved paths. Amorgos is also a nice place for hiking and hiking paths lead to many nice beaches.

This impressive Monastery was built in the 11th century and it is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. It is the trademark of Amorgos island. Built entirely on the slopes of a rock, this monastery gives amazing view to the sea. A trekking path leads to the nice beach of Agia Anna.
