Agios Nikolaos Folk Museum: The Folk Museum of Agios Nikolaos was founded in 1978, in collaboration with the Cultural Society of Eastern Crete. It is housed at the building of the Port Authority, on the ground floor. This museum may be small but contains many interesting items that depict life on Crete along its recent history.
There are many, different utensils and pieces of furniture that date from the early and mid-20th century. It also has local folk costumes, traditional textiles and wooden-carved objects. Furthermore, there are some icons to show the religious feeling of the Cretan people, various old manuscripts and rare books.
You will also have the chance to see a traditional Cretan bedroom, fully equipped and decorated. This folk art museum hosts two private collections, the collection of General Ioannis Alexakis and another one, donated by Mrs Chrysoula |
