The Lake of Agios Nikolaos in Lassithi, Crete: Agios Nikolaos is the capital of the prefecture of Lassithi on the island of Crete. It is a popular tourist attraction, with many cafes and souvenir shops that add to its entertainment and shopping options. It also contains museums and numerous exhibitions and fairs. But the most charming feature of Agios Nikolaos is the Agios Nikolaos Lake.

It is a breathtaking lake, surrounded by trees and stunning red rocks which bring out an interesting contrast to the surrounding landscape. Connected to the sea directly through a channel, Agios Nikolaos Lake is extremely popular with the tourists.

According to mythology, Athena and Armetis once bathed in the water of this magnificent lake. The deep dark water of the lake is mesmerizing, and food joints and shops surround the lake itself, Colorful boats are moored along it, adding to its beauty.

Agios Nikolaos lake itself is much smaller than the more popular Voulismeni lake, around which the town is built, but it is this feature that makes it more appealing as it is more private and navigable. Easily accessible, Agios Nikolaos lake is definitely worth a visit by visitors of the beautiful town of Agios Nikolaos.
