Heraklion Sivas 01
Crete Heraklion Sivas: Sivas is a picturesque village on the south western side of Heraklion, about 60 km from Heraklion Town. The traditional style led to declare this village as a protected settlement.

Many churches are found along the streets of Sivas and in the surrounding region, such as the Church of Agios Ioannis Xenos, who lived and taught Christianity in western Crete in the 10th century, the Church of Agia Marina at the entrance of the village and the chapel of Prophet Elias on a hill overlooking Sivas.

The village of Sivas is surrounded by wild mountainside and some greenery. It is located close to the tourist resort of Matala and the ancient Minoan site of Phaestos. Another ancient site near Sivas is the archaeological site of Agia Triada, about 3 km west of Phaestos, where a sarcophagus has been found.

Moreover, the gorge of Agiofaraggo is at a close distance to Sivas. This gorge is a lovely trekking site that ends to a wonderful beach. Many people go for free camping in the beach of Agiofaraggo and other for naturism, although this is not an official nudist beach.
