Heraklion Villages: Mires village in Heraklion
Crete Mires Heraklion: Mires is a large agrarian and commercial village situated south-west of Heraklion Town, in the plain of Messaras. It is a modern settlement with a huge park situated just outside the village full of verdant trees, paved paths, beautiful fountains and kiosks. Beaches can be found appreciatively 14 kilometres from Mires.

All kind of accommodations and restaurants will be found in the village.

Interesting visiting from the village is the Nunnery of Panagia Kalyriani which is located 6 kilometres west, and where popular art such as textiles and needlework are exhibited.

Also interesting is the Monastery of Panagia Odigitria (Leading Virgin Mary) which was built in 1568, with reminds of its surrounding walls. This monastery was an active meeting place during the Cretan revolt against Turkish yoke.
