The Lychnostatis Open Folklore Museum in Heraklion Crete: Located close to the port of Hersonissos, Lychnostatis is an open folklore museum that was founded by the collector Giannis Markakis. The museum was constructed from 1986-1992 exclusively with natural material, like wood, stone, and clay.

This museum aims to revive the folklore traditional life in Crete, which is why the exhibits include a windmill, a church, an olive press, a wine press, a threshing floor, a weaving room, a pottery workroom, a garden with local trees and flowers from Crete, cooking utensils, furniture, and many other interesting items.
As the museum is open, it works only from mid-spring to mid-autumn. The museum also has a permanent collection with work of Cretan artists, an open theatre where various events take place in summer and a traditional coffee shop where traditional Cretan drinks are served.
