This museum aims to revive the folklore traditional life in Crete, which is why the exhibits include a windmill, a church, an olive press, a wine press, a threshing floor, a weaving room, a pottery workroom, a garden with local trees and flowers from Crete, cooking utensils, furniture, and many other interesting items.

As the museum is open, it works only from mid-spring to mid-autumn. The museum also has a permanent collection with work of Cretan artists, an open theatre where various events take place in summer and a traditional coffee shop where traditional Cretan drinks are served.
