Heraklion Museums: The Museum at Minos Winery on Heraklion, Crete

Minos Winery Museum: Miliarakis Winery in Heraklion is famous for its authentic, delicious wines. It started with Antonakis Miliarakis, who in 1932 began to produce wine for travelers who passed by the area of Peza on their way to southern Crete. With the help of his sons, he expanded his business slowly earning the present reputation. It was the first company in Crete to make bottled wine in 1952. By the 1960’s, France became their largest importer and they extended their distribution to North America, Asia and Australia.

Today the winery produces nearly 900,000 bottles per year. The winery includes an auditorium for audio / visual presentations, a public tasting room, a museum including an exhibition of old winery machines, as well as an old stone-made winepress and a gift shop. It is open from Monday to Friday from 9am-4pm, Saturday from 11am- 4pm and remains closed on Sundays.
