Heraklion Reviews -General

Heriklion is a busy, dirty city like New York or Rome. The city is surrounded by a huge wall built in the 1500's, which is in itself an amazing site. The nightlife is not particularly memorable, but if you get away from the harbor you can find a good restaurant at a decent price. But the main reason to stay here is to visit Knossos. It's an ancient city a short bus ride away. Busses leave from the main terminal every 20 minutes during the day and round trip is only a few Euros. The Knossos site is extensive and fascinating. I paid 10 Euros for a guide and she was well worth the price. In summer, take lots of water and sunblock!
