Welcome to the prefecture of Heraklion Greece , one of the four prefectures which form Crete Island. The capital of the town, which has the same name than the prefecture, is the economical center of all the island. It is a modern town with modern buildings and the most important port of the island. Even if the town is not of great interest, the area offers amazing beaches, charming villages, impressive gorges and some of Greece ’s most important archaeological sites like Knossos Palace .

The prefecture of Heraklion is endowed with numerous enchanting beaches such as the beach of Matala which offers emerald waters or the superb beaches of Analipsi, Tsoutsouros or Amoudara.
