Information about
Flights to Crete:
The island of Crete has two international airports.
The bigger is the airport of Heraklion and the other one is at Chania. There is also a small domestic airport in Sitia.
Heraklion and Chania airports offer regular flights to Athens Greece (both trip take about 45 minutes). There are also direct flights to Thessaloniki and the trip takes about 1 hour and a half.
The airport of Heraklion is also linked to Rhodes and the flight takes about 1 hour. The flights to all other destinations have to be performed via Athens.
Apart from domestic flights, these airports also receive frequent charter flights from abroad.
Crete also has a small domestic airport close to Sitia, Lassithi. This airport proposes only flights to Athens (the trip takes about 1 hour) and a flight to Karpathos island (the flight takes about 30 minutes).
The itineraries from all three airports of Crete are more frequent in summer.
Urban buses and taxis are running
out of the terminals, linking them to the main towns
of Crete.
Some hotels are also offering free transfer from the airport by private bus or car.
Many car agencies have their office at the airports of Chania and Heraklion, so you may rent cars and motorbikes from there.
