For one more time, the Catholic Cemetery of Chania Town, in Markou Botsari street, was vandalized last weekend by strangers, who entered the cemetery and damaged many parts of it. This is the third time that this cemetery has been vandalised. The first time was in October 2007 and the second in March 2008. This unfortunate incident raised concern among the local authorities and also caused the complains of the Catholic Bishop of Crete, which mentioned that although this cemetery has been declared as a preservd monument since 1991, no action has been assumed for its protection, especially after the first two attacks. The Catholic Cemetery of Chania dates from the Venetian times and has a great historical importance for the town.
