Day 1
The famous Red Sightseeing Bus has now come to Chania, the most beautiful town of Crete! Visit the most important parts of the town easily and quickly. The ticket is valid for 24 hours and free transfer is offered for tourists staying outside Chania Town (in Chrisi Akti, Stalos, Agia Marina, Agioi Apostoloi and Platanias).

The trip starts from Akti Kanari, where the bus passes in front of the two old chimneys of Avea oil refinery. This was one of the first industrial buildings in Crete and a rare sample of architecture.

Then, we reach Nea Hora, a picturesque harbor whose name means and "New Country". This name was given because thousands of refugees arrived there in the early 1920s, when they were forced to live their homes in Asia Minor (the Turkish Aegean Coast).

Next stop is 1886 Square, where visitors can see the Town Hall and the cross-shaped building of the Municipal Market. The Turkish quarter of Spianzia follows, where you can walk along Hatzimichali Daliani street and admire the church of St Nicolas with the tall minaret (a remain from the Turkish occupation of Crete). Also see the old Venetian Shipyards (called Neoria), the great Arsenali and the Lighthouse. Then we pass Sampionara Gate, one of the four main entrances of Chania Old Town.

Continue the trip to the suburbs of Chania and particularly to the elegant quarter of Halepa. Pass through old mansions, admire the National Foundation of Research and Studies and "Eleftherios Venizelos", the old Catholic French School of Nuns, the houses of Prince George and Eleftherios Venizelos (an important Greek prime-minister who descended from Crete) and the Church of Saint Magdalene.

Going up to Akrotiri Peninsula, the bus passes through the small pine park of Prophet Elias and eventually reaches the Graves of Venizelos, a spot with breathtaking view of Chania Town from one side and the impressive White Mountains on the other side.

On the way back to the town centre, you can stop at the port of Souda. Then the bus passes through the Courthouse Square with the Cathedral of St Peter and St Paul at the background.

Next stop are the Municipal Gardens, a sanctuary of the famous Cretan kri-kri (wild goat), and the Clock Tower. On the way back to Akti Kanari, the bus drives through St Salvadore Gate and the outside fortifications of the Venetian Walls.
