Chania Elos

General information

The traditional village of Elos is located 60 km southwest of Chania Town, on the way to the Monastery of Chrissoskalitissa and the wonderful Elafonisi Beach.

Built at an altitude of 560 meters above sea level, this tranquil verdant village is full of running waters and lush plane and chestnut trees that provide ample shade even on the hottest summer days. There are just a few stone houses, whose inhabitants are mostly engaged in agriculture and stock breeding. It is the perfect place to stop and enjoy an authentic Cretan meal, but you can also visit the old aqueduct behind the village square. Near the aqueduct, you will find the 14th-century church of Agios Ioannis, which has some nice frescoes.

In late October, an annual Chestnut Festival with traditional music and dancing is held in the square.
