Villages: Akrotiri village in Chania |
Akrotiri Chania: The area of Akrotiri consists in a peninsula lying north-east of the prefecture of Chania. It is where the second airport of Crete is located, in the western part of the peninsula.
In the Akrotiri area visitors will find some interesting monasteries to visit (Gouverneto, Agia Triada and Paxinos), many lovely churches, numerous accommodations of all categories and the seaside settlement of Kalathas which has a beautiful sandy beach with crystalline waters and various touristy accommodations.
Other fine beaches can be found in Akrotiri, as the Stavros beach, where, apart from the soft sand and the clear waters, visitors can admire a Neolithic cave that was used as a sanctuary from the end of the Bronze Period and through all the Greek periods. |
