Day 1
This is a private tour.A small island only an hour ferry ride from Athens, Poros is a popular destination for day-trippers and weekend excursions from the capital of Greece. Due to its proximity to Athens, the small size and the beautiful nature, Poros gets pretty popular in summer, without losing its traditional character.
Most activities on the island concentrate in Poros Town, the only real village that has all facilities. The first things to notice as the boat enters the port are the elegant Neoclassical houses and the Clock Tower, on the highest hill of the town offering great view to the region. The waterfront is the busiest spot, lined by private yachts, fishing boats, portside cafeterias and small gift shops. This is where the buses depart from and go around the island, to the beautiful beaches and resorts of Poros.
Although beaches on Poros are not large, they have crystal water and lovely ambience. Most of them are organized with umbrellas, sun beds, beach bars and some sports centres. The most popular beach is Askeli, where most tourist facilities are found. The road from Askeli leads to the Monastery of Zoodochos Pigi, the main religious centre of the island with historical importance and lush green environment. Other popular beaches include Megalo Neorio, Kanali and the Love Bay, a picturesque cove surrounded by pine trees.
