Duration: 5 ½ hours | Walking time: 45 min. | Walking pace: Moderate

During this tour, you’ll get the chance to discover the most famous monuments and attractions in Athens and visit the amazing New Acropolis Museum!

A licensed guide will give you detailed information about all the sights you’ll visit as well as all the exhibits of the Acropolis Museum.

The tour will start at the Syntagma metro station, where our guide will briefly show you (within 10 minutes) the archaeological findings that were discovered during the construction of the metro line.

Note that our guide will be waiting for you INSIDE the Syntagma Metro Station on the first level, by the ticket validation machines, underneath the big central hanging clock. We kindly ask you to be at the meeting point by 09:15 because the tour starts at 09:30 am.

We will continue with a visit to the House of the Greek Parliament and the Monument of the Unknown Soldier, where we’ll watch the changing of the guards. Then, we’ll visit the National Gardens and the impressive Neoclassical Zappeion Hall.

Opposite Zappeion, there is the Temple of Zeus and Arch of Hadrian. After crossing the road in front of the Arch, we’ll arrive at the picturesque Plaka neighborhood. At the entrance of this neighborhood, we’ll see the statue of Melina Merkouri.

We walk up Dionysiou Areopagitou street until we reach the southern gate of the Acropolis. We’ll enter the site of the Acropolis from the southern side to avoid the crowds and to also see the Theatre of Dionysus, the most ancient theatre in the world.

Then, we’ll climb up to the Acropolis hill to see the marvelous Parthenon, the temple of Athena Nike, the Propylaea, the Erechtheion, the Karyatides and to marvel at the breathtaking view of Athens. Our guide will give you all the historical information regarding the glorious monuments of the Acropolis and also of the surrounding monuments, including the Ancient Agora, the Theatre of Herodes Atticus, the Monument of Philopappos, and the Pnyx Hill.

This is the first part of the tour and ends at 12:45 p.m.

Then you will have plenty of free time to take photographs of the Acropolis and the monuments nearby or enjoy a coffee at the lovely cafeterias of Plaka.

At 13.30 p.m. you’ll meet again with our guide inside the New Acropolis Museum. We suggest arriving at the Museum about 5 minutes before the tour starts. The New Acropolis Museum stands out for its impressive architecture and glass floors. The 4,000 exhibits hosted in the museum come from excavations carried out in the Holy Rock of the Acropolis and other sites in Attica. From the second and the third floor of the museum you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Acropolis Hill.

The tour ends at the Acropolis Museum at about 14.30 pm. Note that during the tour there will be ample time to rest a little in shady quiet places.
