Rebetiki Istoria in Athens
Rembetiki Istoria is a music tavern located in Exarhia, one of the oldest districts of Athens. It opened in 1981 as an authentic place with the sounds of rembetika, the Greek urban folk music. Actually this is the oldest rebetika-huant in Athens.
It is a small place with limited seating, and a tiny stage for the singer and the musicians. The walls and ceilings of this historical place, tucked into a 20th century building, perfectly match with this kind of music.
The tavern receives young people, due to the close university buildings, as well as older crowds who have actually lived with rembetika and are quite familiar with this kind of music. Apart from live music, it also offers pleasant mezedes and traditional dishes. The night always closes with vivid Greek dancing.
