Kalimarmaro stadium in Athens Greece: In ancient times the Kalimarmaro stadium was originally constructed to host the Panathenaic games. In classical times the stadium was enlarged by the roman, Herod Atticus. In modern times the site of the stadium was excavated in 1870 and rebuilt to host the first modern olympics in 1896.
