Kotzia square, near Omonia Omonia Athens: If you proceed towards Athinas street from the Marketplace you will come across Omonia square, which incidentally happens to be the oldest square in Athens. The square is bounded with several restaurants, such as the classic “Café Neon”, and several hotels and shops.

In the past Omonia square was renowned for its beauty. Today, if you take the trouble of going downstairs right to the metro station you can see vintage photographs of the square’s early days. When automobiles were introduced in Athens,
 

Omonia square was one of the worst affected and the square gradually became less people oriented. Ultimately things were so bad that even the square was not automobile friendly and traffic congregated from all parts of Athens thereby creating total chaos.

They city authorities have been doing their best to bring back the glory days of the by gone era and with this aim in mind, the city authorities have remodeled the square numerous times in the recent years but they have been unsuccessful in their attempts.
