The Zoological Park in Spata Athens: The Attica Zoological Park or the Attica Zoo was established in 2000 in Spata, a suburb to the north of Athens by Mr Jean-Jacques Leseur. In fact, it is the largest and the only one of its kind in Greece. Starting as a bird park, this private zoo has grown enormously in recent years and is home to an astounding variety of bird and animal species.
The bird collection, regarded as the 3rd largest in the world and representing nearly 300 species from the continents of Asia, Africa and America, is housed in highly modern walk-in aviaries. The "World of Reptiles", a recent addition to the park, has an impressive collection of pythons, boas, crocodiles and other reptiles. Typical Greek fauna including wolves, brown bears, foxes, wild cats and lynxes are moreover exhibited in the park. |
