The Zappeion building is a tribute to this great man who brought the Olympic Games back into the modern world. Having played the role of the official Olympic village for the Olympic games of 1896 and host to the fencing events, the Zappeion building today is used for many other events such as public exhibitions, wine tasting, trade shows, business meetings and many more. Many international conferences are also hosted in Zappeion. Note that it was here that the integration of Greece into the European Union was signed in 1979 by the then prime minister Konstantinos Karamanlis.

The classic architecture of the building is completely breathtaking. With an oval shaped open area flanked by a two storey colonnade, the building is painted in traditional rust colors, a feature common in several ancient Greek buildings. One of the more famous exhibitions held here was that of Olympic Torches, an extremely interesting collection.
The Zappeion Megaron is easy accessible with buses running frequently from and to Syntagma Square. A walk through the National Gardens is all that is required after that.
