Athens and the surrounding area has been blessed with an abundance of beaches that are located very close to the city center. There is a large variety of beaches and a great number of them are accessible from the center of Athens via buses and other means of mass transit such as the new light rail (TRAM) system.
Location: 35 km southeast from the centre of Athens. Description: The sandy beach surrounded by small fish taverns and cafes, is unfortunately often quite crowded.
Location: 11 km south from the centre of Athens. Description: Alimos is located directly north of the old Ellinikon airport. It's a sandy beach with sports facilities.
